Tyler Loch creator VisualHub, one of the best (and funny) video converters for OS X it is closed for a few years ago and left the application to be delayed and then shut it down completely, forcing people to scour the Internet for copies. Several versions of OS X have come and gone and still worked, but the lion killed the app to users sufficiently completely.
I am a former client and VisualHub bought it reseller Kagi Tyler, when he was still available. Today I received an email informing me that I could update the VisualHub to work with Leo for a mere $ 5. Glad that the application was supported by the again, I soon discovered that Tyler was not part of this update and to the point that Kagi VisualHub spam list in order to lift a bit more money from the product.
Here's Tyler's side of the story:
We use Kagi as our official dealer for all Techspansion sales. We had a good working relationship for years, Techspansion.
Although the VisualHub were not offered for sale in years, I thought it would be a nice gesture to correct some of the issues that caused it to fail on Mac OS X lion.
I quietly released some replacement parts free of charge at techspansion.com a month ago for people who still use VisualHub and AudialHub.Last night, former client email me very confused. He received an e-mail message from Kagi about Lion updates VisualHub. For $ 4.99.
Then it was My father-in-law, asking if I'm going back to business, and just forgot to mention it in his ...More and more friends, relatives and former clients have begun to treat my wife and I last night, wondering what was going on.
We began to understand that our entire client base (or close to it) contacted the advertising for the updating of the $ 5 "vHub", something I've never participated, which touts the company's name and the name of our software is front and Center.Although the FFmpeg and inner workings of my open-source (FilmRedux, ReduxZero, etc.), VisualHub as it exists in the world, is not. I gave permission and were not familiar with Kagi hosting, redeployment and indirectly sell components that I wrote in their product.
And I definitely do not (and never will) use contact information for my company clients to obtain a business like this.
So here's the gist of it:
A reliable business partner selects my copyrighted code.
…Packages and makes it available through the updater ...
…Offers for sale ...
…And mass email my customers about it.Frankly I'm very disappointed with this whole situation.
I am in contact with the wish to see how we can solve this problem.
Firstly you can get update Leo here for free, and secondly, this is probably the most egregious examples of blackmailware, I've seen in a long time. vHub update is, in short, simple installation, built around Tyler's patch. In a note to Seidman LON Kagi's CEO Kee Nethery accused Tyler to "walk out of business" and said that his clients were confused by it burdensome requirements. TUAW says:
In connection with VisualHub as developer Tyler Loch was halted his app, Kagi indicated users Loch in patch instructions on Techspansion. Despite the fact that efforts to fix the app is minimal process showing the app package contents and replace the three script files clearly goes beyond the "comfort level" many users from using Kagi.
There is also some doubt that the application is a product of Kagi. A quick search shows that the update "site" (vhub .biz) appointed Nethery Ki.
We can clearly assume that Kagi will be glad to unpack and sell almost anything at the moment, including OS X updates. It is an open market, people, and if you Kagi, you know that there's a sucker born every minute.
