Apple and education always went hand in hand, from the first Apple IIs gracing the libraries across the country in countless aging machines currently in schools around the world. Now however, a new version of the iMac (not shown here) may allow schools to upgrade on the cheap.

9to5 advises that iMac sub $ 1000 will be released on or around August 16 with a slower and less RAM. Machine will not compete with the "real" entry-level iMac, for a price of $ 1200 and instead primarily to training clients.

9to5 writes that the machine will be a:

3.1 Ghz dual-core 3.06 GHz (rounded), 2 GB of DDR3 RAM, 250 GB of disk storage space and graphics processor AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 256 MB of memory allocated.

Presumably do not need to be a customer of the volume to get this car, but it is not directed at the General market.
