Venturocket launches AdWords inspired work market kill summary

He may not get quite a lot of media coverage as the VMAs at the moment, but we are all aware of the fact that the economy remains in a toilet. Unemployment is still more than 9 per cent, and articles like this in detail, just how long it takes for the average American to find a job, job-seekers and giving up the search after only 5 months.

Of course part of the problem is simply not enough jobs are created, but it is also true that the current state of the workplace and markets today leaves much to be desired. Venturocket, job, service based out of San Francisco, today launches a new spin on the old model, which he hoped would prove more efficient way to match job seekers to employers. With a nod to AdWords to boot.

To start Venturocket founder and CEO Mark Hoag said he wants his service to dismantle old standards search work and rebuild the model from the ground up. For the Hoag, this means no more than a summary not more cover letters and classified ads. With the old, in with new. Venturocket also does away with the charges and fees for job seekers and employers, starting instead only charge a small fee to actual connection, i.e. the applicant gets called interview actual.

As an alternative to the CV and applications, services, requires potential workers to remit their skills and knowledge in these skills is by selecting them from a common pool of choice removing interference duplication and picky search filters.

But that's where the model Venturocket sets her apart from other job seekers: actually bid on keywords that describe their level of knowledge in specific work or qualifications, so you in very real terms, put your money where your mouth is. You are a developer of experts? Well then you can say that you are worth $ 20 and prospective employers to pay that price to talk with you, and you pay the price in return.

In fact Venturocket brings the same model used Google AdWords to determine the fee structure for your ad on the job search process. It is different (and possibly a bit above method) for determining the value of individual connections, but Hoag said he thinks that, having providers and seekers pay a nominal fee, however, he would ensure that both sides are really interested in each other, and that establish a connection. Quality of communication.

Otherwise, the service opened for jobs in each sector and freely join, find and use for the vacancy. Professional skills, it is easy to sort and separate serving results commonly used listings and related fields. Venturocket wants to abandon the need to spam hundreds of job sites and employers with your resume and hastily written cover letter, allowing employers to choose only from among the candidates with the best matches of the skill, leaving job seekers relax in knowing that they will automatically get in touch with the companies that they don't have to spend time compiling saccharin cover letter or prepare a professional headshot.

Now some may put off the fact that you have to spend money to bid for popular keywords, but as Hoag said usually there is a misconception that it is wrong or it is not possible to spend the money as part of the job search. Actually, people spend a lot of money, job seekers and Venturocket in the model, you pay only for those skills that best describe your level of knowledge — and if the employer pays the same way to get in touch with you. Hoag said he understood the model can be attractive for the top 2.5% of job seekers, but the other 97.5% of people are the ones who really need help.

Now of course, to the Adwords keyword price model passes range from $ 1 to $ 100, and for the sake of Venturocket, the price of keywords will be determined on the basis of competition. So there's a chance some titles are up, but Hoag said that, for example, Adwords, he expects the average price is significantly lower — $ 2.

You can also suggest that this model would find people adding hundreds of keywords to describe their level of knowledge, but Hoag said he wants to limit them to manageable numbers incentivize completion, so employees can enter up to 30 words, while employers can add up to 15.

Venturocket testing interesting solution with its new service, and it will be very interesting to see if the Adwords model tests well in the labour market. The idea has some real action on it, but people can really become comfortable with a service that bypasses traditional work assets like resumes and cover letters and replaces them with keyword bidding?

Windows phone application 30000 reaches market opens for submissions mango

windows-phone-mango

Currently available 30000 mobile applications for Windows phone, the latest mobile operating system from Microsoft Corporation. It is a huge leap from 11500 Microsoft reported in March, but remain far from industry leaders, iOS and Android. For comparison purposes have 425000 iOS apps and over 250000 on Android, at least according to the latest official figures. However, the 30 K apps not bad for an operating system that has not yet even a year ago, we approve.

All existing Windows phone applications will run on Microsoft Windows phone "Mango", Microsoft says – last updated mobile operating system due out sometime next month. No fragmentation is here!

Mango is a major update that will introduce a number of new features, including background sound, fast app switching, multiple double side live tiles, better search integration and hundreds of other functions.

Windows phone SDK hits RC status

Microsoft on Monday opened its Windows Marketplace phone app to accept submissions from developers of mango. And it also now updated phone Windows SDK (software development kit) 7.1 status release candidate (RC). The SDK is available in English and Japanese, says Microsoft.

The SDK includes "Go Live" license that allows developers to publish their applications on the market of mango ready after they have been recompiled. In addition the SDK includes the final version of "the market test Kit" and a new Profiler, which allows developers to test their applications for certification prior to its submission. This helps speed up the approval process – means that applications will hit the market soon. Telephone advertising Microsoft Windows SDK, a new SDK, too, for those developers who want to integrate ads into their mobile applications.

Microsoft is also giving developers a green light to cross to submit their games in the newly supported mango country, along with any game ratings information via hub App.

RC version of the SDK is not the final SDK, but is still set to arrive in September this year, presumably along with mango and public launch.

But there's a bit of bad news: Although mangos apps will arrive on the market back-end systems, those of you running mango beta build will not be able to run them yet. You'll have to wait until September, like everyone else!

Update: Android now has 250 K apps, Google spokesman tells us.

Update 2: we see that Microsoft's blog says there are "almost" 30000 apps. For what it's worth, the statement we got from Microsoft to post going read as follows: "... all Windows phone application and 30000 game titles will run on mango. (This is the first time we've Shared The 30 k Figure publicly). "

Whether it's "almost or exactly 30000 splitting hairs a bit, but is well worth noting.

Windows phone 7 is the successor to the mobile operating system Windows Mobile 6.5 in development by Microsoft, is slated for October 2010. Microsoft's goal is to create ...

Research-Facility2

Scientists, be prepared for certain violations.

Last month I wrote about a startup seeks Quartzy help scientists to streamline their laboratories, making it easy to keep track of who does what reagents (which is actually a bigger problem than you would think).

And today we see the launch of other funded Y Combinator startup called Exchange science that seeks to help researchers differently: he wants to make it easier for them to carry out experiments on expensive and sometimes rare equipment housed in universities across the country. And in the end, the company hopes to reinvent outsource research scientists, hoping to make it a more effective manner.

Before we get in the way they are going to do it, here's some information about how to research.

Co-founder Elizabeth Iorns, who has a doctorate in cancer biology and the Faculty of the University of Miami School of medicine, explains that the large universities often have what is known as the principal object is a special laboratory that houses the most valuable equipment that may exceed $ 1 million on the machine. Obviously, it would be unacceptable to put them in each laboratory scientists, and many of them are only sometimes anyway. So instead, scientists to submit their experiments to the core fund, where you have committed resources to scientists (scientists who solely perform these "external" experiments, and not to conduct their own research). Scientists resources then return the results of the researcher, who requested them.

Of course not every main centre is every piece of machinery. And Iorns said that when the researcher wants to use equipment that hosts other logistics can be painful. Central tracking database which universities have some equipment is missing, there is no standardization around payment systems, and even the price of each underlying Fund will charge a fee for the experiment can vary (this part, she explains, because rarely used objects have to charge more for the reimbursement of expenses).

Science-Exchange hopes that a solution to this. The company strives to create a central database, which allows researchers to find where they can pass the experiment, and how much it will cost them. It also handles the transaction, so researchers and universities do not have to worry about making sure their payment systems are integrated with each other (Science-Exchange makes its money by taking Commission on each transaction). The average price of about $ 5000 experiment — and despite the Commission's universities often save money because they can find the main objects with lower taxes.

And Iorns said that universities with underutilized major objects typically charge higher fees can close them without having to worry too much about their faculty, which, because they will be able to more easily outsource their experiments.

In the long term, Iorns said that run wants to simplify even wider range of experiments that do not necessarily involve the Basic objects. What if, for example, the researcher can devote one day a week for experiments by other researchers? They could offer experiments, specifically related to their professions can generate more accurate results than if these researchers conducted experiments on their own laboratories. Of course this can lead to issues around creating, who actually is reliable, but Iorns said that it could be considered using the system.

But it's still way. At the moment they are sticking with fixed assets. So far, they say, the results have been promising — and I think this sounds like a good idea.

Start command consists of Iorns, Ryan Abbott (previously cofounded Loudpixel) and Dan Knox (formerly VP at Moconta Launches Mobile Adesso through).

Science-Exchange is an online market for scientific experiments. Outsourcing has the potential to transform science into what he turned his science-Exchange makes outsourcing scientific experiments.

Earlier today when we wrote about UrbanSpoon is trying to get a piece of the pie Otkryt'Tablicu 's, this quote from Urbanspoon VP Kara Nortman really struck me, "two years ago, the online reservation system requires massive upfront investment," she said, Now claiming that a similar platform as simple as creating the iPad/iPhone application.

Perhaps this ease of installation (and lower customer acquisition cost) why we see the exit of investor interest in "Otkryt'Tablicu X" services in recent times, the most notable is DST in 50 million investment in ZocDoc. Just yesterday I was sitting on the pencil you in demo platform, which pitched itself as a Otkryt'Tablicu for appointment, not the first time I heard it.

May Otkryt'Tablicu model is capable of even more when made more niche? In the end there are 30 K restaurants in the United States who take a reservation against the two million professionals Salon.

Pencil you in competitor StyleSeat, who started at TechCrunch Disrupt in New York in may, now has more than 75 K appointments made, is $ 3.5 million in spending. StyleSeat, hairdressers and Salon for the installation of simple online profiles to showcase their products, now boasts 14 K add salon professionals who have established accounts with customers 50 K and 1700 shares (transactions).

General Director StyleSeat melody Mccloskey tells me she discusses several key industry players on partnership with turn Disrupt, "Disrupt gave us access to the companies that we do not normally have access to so early in the process, we have several decision makers in some of the largest companies out there. If we took the traditional channels, it will take us much longer to reach these people. "

McCloskey, plans for profit StyleSeat through the freemium model, offering product StyleSeat for free and then charging $ 25 for more advanced CRM and marketing tools. It considers the big company is well-positioned to shake up (sorry, fed up with the use of the word break) beauty industry, which has an annual income of $ 71 billion.

McCloskey said that social sharing features of the site have had the greatest influence on its growth and expects that the Facebook recommendations available through platform, worth $ 6.70. One of the six recommendation on Facebook results in online booking, at a cost of $ 40 average service. It tells me that 98% of clients using the StyleSeat say they will recommend friends stylist.

A few weeks ago I met with Peter Thiel and that pesky question of whether we in a bubble or not came up. During the discussion, both sides will get bored with, Til suggested, I have not heard: IPO, LinkedIn is not some point Netscape, opened markets for everyone else. In fact, he said, it was vice versa.

LinkedIn has shown that you can have strong IPOs and get insanely high p/e, if you're a 10-year-old, profitable company, earnings growth of more than 100% per year, which can command $ 5 billion-plus valuation. He argued that is what the market wants right now and these companies lack.

More specifically, those kinds of IPOS could not be further from the historic playbook Silicon Valley. Most of the big tech companies went public on the evaluations of well under $ 1 billion and was their biggest innovations after their prices. LinkedIn in the IPO is not a harbinger of good ol' days. Rather, it showed how dramatically different relationship between Wall Street and in the Valley of the river has become since the last days of good ol'.

In our last segment with LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner I asked his opinion about his company just made Silicon Valley: open markets or close them all except the big five or so private giants? We also speak of such an assessment. It is not whether the company was actually worth $ 10 billion, but he shares his thoughts on the use of — let's just say the price earnings ratio generous as currency for more acquisitions.

I started asking what he learned from his time as a Senior Executive of Yahoo is clearly not the Valley Darling for some end, prepare it for their new responsibilities, Wall Street, the CEO of LinkedIn. (For the first segment in the LinkedIn come here for the second segment on the growth of its users and the experience of Weiner in IPO media fire go here.)
