A year later, Facebook Killing of places ...To put a location around the world
MG Siegler at TechCrunch to write for the 2009 year. It covers web, mobile, social, big companies, small companies, almost all. And Apple. A lot. Prior to TechCrunch it covers different technologies beats for VentureBeat. Originally from Ohio, mg attended the University of Michigan. It was almost exactly a year ago Facebook began places, their location on the basis of a proposal. Read the press at the time, you would have thought that it was going to be killer Foursquare, Loopt, Gowalla strangler beheader, etc. Nevermind that Facebook, in partnership with all of them to begin with, these guys have been made.
Fast forward to today: immodestly recently raised a large round of funding, evaluating them for $ 600 million. And Facebook is killing off their seats.
To be clear, Facebook is not ducking out-of-the-game location. In fact, we can say that they doubled down on it. But they are moving away from the game played the "registration". As a result, jobs, kill and replaced with a new "Number" field set forth Jason, along with greater privacy changes today.
Reading through Facebook's post at the location changes, it was not clear what these changes are designed for concept when you return. But this page appears to make it a bit more clearly. As I read it, refunds will remain part of the product, but they will no longer highlight. It seems that there is hope that the people abandon thinking location with regard to "return" and instead to think about it in terms of marking your location at what ever it is you're doing is exchanging thoughts, post a picture, etc.
As a new page layout, the Facebook now considers the use of location in three key areas:
Share where you beenShare you nowShare where are you going toPast. At the present time. Future.
This is smart, because this is something that none of the other services the location really nailed yet. And now, when a seat is given to each activity to Facebook (although it can easily be turned off), and not only on mobile — many people are going to use it. Location as a layer context must get a great update.
All this is smart from location-based advertising strategy. This is more data and more powerful signals. What I will not even clearly is what this means for Facebook, location-based services. Launched along with seats in the last year, it would seem that this never took off. And Facebook does not mention it today. I reached them clarified.
Video on the page location information details like location tagging would work. By default, facebook.com, apparently at the city level, and there is a secondary location button to add the actual place (which is then inserted into your status message). You can also add space for photos, you've already posted.
The video also points out that mobile devices will continue to back button, but the functionality will be different. This obviously will only exist as part of status updates and will no more big blue "check in" button that inserts your registration in the other thread returns (and again, there is no more space to the area itself). Instead, once you choose a place, it will simply be tacked to the end of your status message.
Seat Exchange will also be more direct and simplified privacy changes Facebook today outlined them.
Update: here's what Facebook talking to deal-registration:
After someone tags where they are on Facebook, they will be directed to the news feed. If the site offers registration of the transaction, the transaction will be displayed under the title History News channel. You can then click on the name of the transaction and then the claim will be accepted.
Below find a diagram of how it will now work.
Facebook is the largest social network, with more than 500 million users. Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook in February 2004, originally as an exclusive network for students at Harvard University. She ...

Five years later, Twitter rolls out image galleries
RIP Empson-writer at TechCrunch. He did not find friends here, he is here to win and you don't forget it. You can contact him at rip [at] techcrunch [dot] com ? more
Over the past few months, Twitter is rolling out some key improvements to their users by adding an improved search functionality and the ability to upload images directly from your Twitter stream. Photo update came through Photobucket hosted and appeared as pic. twitter links and images for the user's followers, as we reported in June and again two weeks ago, when this function was officially available for the full 100% of Twitter users.
Today Twitter keeps rolling by adding image galleries to everyday Twitter users update photos. Huzzah! According to the new Twitter support page of the image gallery users will gather the most recent 100 images that you downloaded to his or her Twitter stream during their recent Twittering career, organizing them all on one page and display them in chronological order.
The images included in user galleries can come from Twitter, yFrog, TwitPic, Instagram and other image sharing services is supported on Twitter Details» Twitter said through the Help Center. Twitterers are likely to be grateful for this opportunity, as this means that users no longer have to click over to a third party sharing application for viewing photo twit friend photos. This new feature is also a Twitter well in their quest for stickier users. Users on the site for all of their photo sharing needs without doubt will be great for Twitter stats and a useful addition for users.
To technical limitations of image galleries display (as mentioned earlier) will include 100 most recent photos and, unfortunately, video thumbnails will not be enabled there will be Tweets with links to videos. Moreover Tweets with images that were sent before January 1, 2010 will not be included in the image gallery.
For those looking for new galleries users they can be found on your profile page. According to the Twitter Help Center by clicking the "show all" open gallery in the current window. There are two options for viewing as a grid view and remote from the first and the last is show you the latest images, complete with the body of the tweet is displayed below and sketches for the other images above it, Twitter said.
Personally, it's hard for me to believe that Twitter is just rolling out this feature in the August of 2011, but that being said, I am glad that here. It would be nice to have the same photos, view the version of the above "similar to you at our Facebook above our wall channels.
For those who are not seeing new photo option in the user profile is more lenient, galleries of images should be popping up within 24 hours if they have not already done so. I do not see the galleries for the Web client or Twitter desktop applications for Mac, but I'm sure they will soon be surfacing. In the end we waited several years for this, what is a few hours?

HTC Android explains the process, cancel the loader unlock tool guarantees coming later this month
Several months have passed since the HTC CEO Peter Chou announced that the company no longer block the bootloaders on their devices, and enthusiasts have nothing to show for it. Many of the latest HTC device remains locked tight, prompting many to wonder when they will deliver on their promises. Thanks to the updated post Facebook and timely tweet, however, now we have the answers to the questions we have been waiting for.
This process will begin with a Web tool (due out later this month), through which to register your account and refuse any and all liability in case everything goes horribly wrong. That's right folks, after removal of loader lock gives you much greater control over how the device works, you can kiss parts (or all) of your warranty goodbye. Once this is done by connecting an Android device to the computer with the installed SDK, and you'll get "device ID marker" which gets connected to the Web tool to generate unique unlock code.
Sounds simple enough, right? The first device to use unlocking treatment are the generic version of HTC sense and then buy the T-Mobile version of the device and Sprint Evo 3D. So how to unlock bootloader is one of the first steps to run the custom ROM, and indeed having some fun with Android, it is gratifying to see them focus on getting new hardware opened. Hopefully soon opened the floodgates, and we can start messing with our HTC toys with reckless abandon.

One of the all-time most popular applications on mobile is the restaurant Urbanspoon (iTunes link). This is still one of the top 10 travel apps on the iPhone. App signature gesture is shake to find nearby restaurants. UrbanSpoon just passed the one billion cocktails and downloaded 20 million times all mobile platforms (Android, Blackberry, MOD). In March 2010 he hit 500 million knocks, so it has doubled in less than a year and a half.
But what exactly is the value of the shake? Well apps run ads, and Web site. With 100 million pages a month through the application and the aftershocks are impressions. But the real game here restaurant reservations. UrbanSpoon comes after Otkryt'Tablicu.
In the past year, Urbanspoon Rezbook iPad app started, which allows restaurants take reservations directly from the application site and Urbanspoon. "Two years ago, the online reservation system requires massive upfront investment," said Kara Nortman, Senior Vice President of the IKA on Urbanspoon (and CityGrid media). Now all they need is the iPad and simple application.
Currently, only about 800 restaurants are Rezbook system, 800 000 listed in Urbanspoon. When they show up in the Urbanspoon, the users can book a table. Nortman said that Urbanspoon seating 19 000 visitors per month in these 800 restaurants which comes to about 24 visitors per month for a restaurant. Otkryt'Tablicu, on the contrary, seats on average 450 diners a month, a restaurant, but it was at this time.
Only use UrbanSpoon is one thousandth of the restaurants in their lists, and is now starting to sign them in a more serious effort after testing the service. "As more and more consumers think about Urbanspoon as a place to discover and then follow-up with a reservation in real time, we should see this number grow," said Nortman.
She sees her mobile applications as its competitive advantage, because it is more relevant. For reservations made from your application, Urbanspoon 22 per cent are in the HR and 77 per cent within 24 hours. Of course Otkryt'Tablicu also has a great mobile application for the reserving State, which covers a lot more restaurants right now. But Urbanspoon sees hole and going after it.
UrbanSpoon allows users to find all the local restaurants. Users can read, user submitted, recommendations and reviews, as well as from critics. It was acquired by IAC.
