Like Quora more thinks about mobile devices, they drop a PIN on the spot

Some of the most interesting and relevant content on Quora linked from their seats. So far, however, not much done to Quora concentrate these data using the location. Today they start.

A new feature going live soon will allow users to specify location information by topic. For example, if the theme of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, now you can drag and drop a PIN to indicate where on the map. This place will display each time you view the topic. And the map can be set to show satellite or terrain view (they're using Google Maps). You can also enter specific addresses.

This may not sound like a big deal, but it most likely indicates where Quora thinks about heading to the location itself. The company noted that, as more people use the service from their mobile phones, location-based questions and answers are becoming increasingly important. This is something that other startups as Hipster, were built around.

Location more generally also allows Quora link topics together in a new way. For example, if you are considering a trip somewhere, you could look at interesting information around the area you're headed, than might otherwise have surfaced on the overall query.

It looks like Facebook is not only taking place more seriously.

Nielsen found that Android users tend to spend more than an hour a day on their phones. Sixty-seven per cent of their time is spent working with apps, while the rest is spent on mobile Internet. Forty-three per cent of these applications are the top 10 apps market, while the top 50 applications used by 61 per cent of the time. Other applications – all 250 000 of them are used by the rest of the time.

The statistics come to Neilsen in a free webinar, which will be held on 15 September.

Nielsen will also release browsing habits/iPhone app users, potentially interesting metric for assessing the implementation of mobile Web applications is a native variety.

Harvesting energy from the radio signals: Two new devices from Japan (video)

Gleaning electricity from radio signals are not super efficient (or new concept), but it is possible technically. Two companies from Japan has recently come up with new devices that can do just that: a harvesting energy from the cell phone signals, another uses a rectifying antenna (Rectenna) for energy production.

Firstly the device [JP] recently announced Tokyo electronic device can pick up radio signals from cell phones between 800 Mhz and convert them into electricity (800 Mhz frequency is used in mobile phones in Japan). The company says that users can expect to get to 2.5 free milliamperes (stored in the small lithium ion battery).

Device gathers signals from other wireless gadgets, too, and it can provide a few minutes running time is built into tablets and laptops (that's better than nothing). Tokyo Electron markets as "green" product and collaborates with the American company Powercast in its development.

We do not have this device, but professional video shot of the next one, recently developed Rectenna from the Tokyo-based Nihon Dengyo Kosaku. Device (pictured above) itself has two main points of sale: he is thin (12 mm to collect signals from Wi-Fi and 30 mm for digital terrestrial broadcasting waves) and needs just 50 µW authorities begin.

Nihon Dengyo said that their Rectenna can get power in micro Watt range from Wi-Fi signals at a distance of about 10 cm, enough to power sensors, for example. The device can be used both inside and outside buildings.
